Since I don’t have an official portfolio on the internet yet, I’m just going to post here some samples of my work from Foundation year at Emily Carr University. So, here it goes…
For our English Class on the Spring Semester, we watched a play called “Black Rider: The casting of the magic bullets”, in which a clerk called Wilhelm makes a pact with the devil in exchange of magic bullets that he would use to impress his fiancee’s father. But the devil said that in exchange for this favor, he would have the right to choose what one of the bullets would hit. So on the day of Wilhelm’s wedding, he aims his gun at a dove, but tragically, the bullet ends up hitting his fiancee instead and killing her.
Coincidentally, the author of this play, William Burroughs, also killed his wife by accidentally shooting at her, while playing a drunken game. When we were asked to create a visual response for this play, I decided to make a drawing illustrating the scene in which Wilhelm is shooting the dove. What’s interesting about this drawing is that you can also see the face of a woman..this woman is William Burrough’s wife, but also a reference to the character’s fiancee in the play.
Next, you can see two of the eight images I created for an assignment called Research Project, in which I researched body painting in various different parts of the world and how this relates to globalization an the huge mixture of cultures we can see on the world nowadays.
I made this drawing for my Drawing and 2D Language. Our goal was to draw hands paying attention to details but also creating a context and meaning for the drawing. Since I’ve been becoming more fond of electronic music since I got to Vancouver, I decided to draw hands DJ-ing by themselves, as a reference to how what really matters is the music and not who is playing it.
For the Design 1 class, we had to create a 3D form using only one kind of material and repetition of basic structures. This is what came out after I started playing with a bunch of clothespins.
This one image is from a project called MATERIAL GENERATED project, in which we had to create something using only one type of material, such as toothpicks, socks, yarn, etc. The Carnival Dancer I made is not really big, but took a long time and patience to glue all the toothpicks together!
